This was the Souths third visit to the Royal Navy and on both previous
occassions the side had leaked more than 50 point in the games. The South these days are made of sterner stuff and this
showed in the first quarter where the game saw no scores from either side with defences on top.
The breakthrough came from the South first who after good approach work
worked the ball wide and put on a set piece which almost worked, the Navy just dragging down Tony Emmins a yard short. However
the damage was already done and the Navy could not organise in time and quick hands out wide saw the Bedford Tiger winger
Chirs Aubury waltz in unmarked. The conversion attempt was then missed giving the South a 4-0 lead. The South almost then
doubled their lead after an break from Adam Cook in the centre saw him put Tony Emmins into space but the last pass to Alex
Heron was dropped with the line begging. The rest of the half saw no further trys.
The Navy were first to score in the second half after South indiscipline
gave them great field position. The South defence looked to be holding firm but a great Navy offload on the try line saw the
scores draw level and then the Navy converted the try to give them a 6-4 lead. The South then had chances of their
own to take the lead, the best been a 50 yard break by full back Matt Jackson only for the final pass to be ruled forward.
The scores stayed the same until the 70th minute when good Navy hands out wide led to the winger scoring to make the game
10 - 4. The South were left to play catch up football for the last ten looking for a score to tie the game but the Navy hung
on for their third win over the South in as many years.
South Squad:
Jackson, Aubury, Milne, Cook, Heron, Swann, Le Marquand, Hyder, Marson, Louisson,
Emmins, Cioffi, Fields, Maddigan, Westlake, Hollister, Park.

The RAF were just beaten by England Lionhearts last season and so the South were not sure how they would go in this game
but were determined to win after the narrow loss to the Navy in the previous week.
The game started well for the South with Kyle Brown from Plymouth scoring after a great off load by club team mate Gavin
Boak. Boak continued to cause the RAF problems with his surging runs, however the props game was cut short after he was sent
of on 21 minutes from striking at the play the ball.
The extra man for the RAF did not seem to give them an advantage as it was the Souths who scored again next with Martin
Brown strolling in from close range unopposed to make it 10-0 for the South. The Souths scored again just before half time
to go in ahead 14-0. This time the RAF failed to deal with a high bomb and Mike Muir gathered the loose ball up and fed Chris
Aubury who in turn put centre Tom King away for the score.
After half time it was the RAF who needed to score first and they did with a great tip on from the loose forward which
went to the winger who scored in the corner. But from then on it was all the South of England. First Matt Tichias scored from
acting half with a simple drop over the line. The next try came from substitue Oli Fountain who found a huge gap in the RAF
defence after a great pass by scrum half Adam Cook. Then with the RAF looking for their second try of the game a lose pass
was intercepted by Matt Tichias who raced 90m to touch down. The final two trys of the game went to Oli Fountain who cut through
the RAF defence twice with great footwork to complete his hatrick for the day and the Souths first win against the RAF 40-4.
South Squad: Thompson, Aubury, K Brown, King, Paxton, Muir, A Cook, Boak, Tichias, Morris, M Brown, Sykes, Flook,
Louisson, Fountain, Stockwell, B Cook.
