James Gross of Bristol looks on as the south go wide

The South of England made it back to back wins over the North of England at Hemel on Bank Holiday Monday.

This time it took the South just one minute to score after good work by the pack the ball was spun wide where the South set piece created a break for the full back Richard Whitehouse who went 20 meters and drew the full back and passed to supporting Adam Cook who went in to score on the left of the posts. Pete Le Marquand converted to give the south a 6-0 lead.

The North however hit back straight away as Adam Cook was too eager in the defensive line and left a huge gap which the North stand off exploited to make the score 6-4, the North then converted their try to level the scores at 6-6.

The game was then evenly matched with both defences supressing intelligent attacking plays, however it was the South who made the break through after a clever dummy by stand off Pete Le Marquand which allowed him to break the Norths line and he then passed to the supporting prop Dan Reeds who scored under the posts, again Le Maquand converting to make it 12-6.

The Souths continued the pressure and had two trys disallowed for forwards passes which were both tough calls. The Norths were unable to reply to the Souths try and the sides headed into the changing rooms at half time with the score 12-6 to the South.

The Souths then took the advantage again and scored 1st in the second half, again it was Pete Le Marquand who dummied to break the North line but this time he didnt need the support and crashed over under the posts. Le Maquand then went on to convert his own try to make it 18-6 to the South.

The South then tried to kill the game off with 10 minutes to go with a drop goal but were unsucessful. This was the chance the North needed and with the posession then worked the ball wide and a great inside ball saw the North stand off again score under the posts to make it 18-10. The try was then converted to leave the North just 6 points behind at 18-12.

The North then with only 10 minutes left were forced into catch up football and made errors that gave the south the ball back time after time. With only 30 seconds on the clock the North went for the draw with a clever chip kick over and it was gathered by the fullback whos pass inside went to ground. This was to be the last play of the day as the Referees final whistle sent the South players into jubilation and the North into despair.
